BALTIMORE ORIOLES NOTES:
YESTERDAY’S NEWS: The Orioles dropped the first game of the four-game set in the Bronx, 6-3…Dropped to 35-4 when leading after six innings…Marked their 14th blown lead of the season. Tyler Wells did not factor in the decision after allowing two runs on five hits (2 HR) with two walks and four strikeouts in 6.0 innings; marked his seventh quality start of the campaign.
Adley Rutschman went 3-for-5 with a double, a run scored, and an RBI to extend his hitting streak to five games; slashing .367/.472/.517 (22-for-60) with six doubles, one home run, nine runs scored, four RBI, and 12 walks in 16 career games against the Yankees.
Anthony Santander went 2-for-4 with a double and has hit safely in his last four games; his seventh-inning double had an exit velocity of 110.9 mph, his hardest-hit ball of the season.
Chris Vallimont made his Major League debut, entering with one out in the eighth inning; worked 0.2 inning, allowing one hit and striking out Anthony Volpe swinging for his first career strikeout.
ON THE ROAD AGAIN: Baltimore began a seven-game road trip last night with the first of four games in the Bronx through Thursday…The O’s will complete the pre-All-Star break schedule with three games in the Twin Cities against Minnesota from July 7-9…The Orioles open after the break with a six-game homestand against Miami and Los Angeles-NL from July 14-19.
At 23-16 away from Oriole Park, the O’s have the best road record in the AL and third-best in MLB; the Birds have had the best road record in the AL 12 times in team history (since 1954), most recently in 2012 (46-35).
AGAINST THE YANKEES: The Orioles and Yankees are meeting for the third time this year and for the second and final series between the two squads in the Bronx…The Orioles have gone 3-4 against the Yankees so far this season…The O’s will host the Yanks in Baltimore for three games from July 28-30…The Birds went 7-12 against the Yankees in 2022, 4-6 at home and 3-6 at Yankee Stadium.
