TONIGHT’S STARTER at ROCKIES: RHP EMMET SHEEHAN (1-0, 1.50 ERA in 2 GS)
2023 SEASON NOTES:
- New York native notched his first big league win on June 23rd against the Astros, tossing six innings and giving up three hits, two runs and two walks while striking out four
- Became the first starting pitcher since at least 1967 to fire 8.0 consecutive hitless innings to begin his Major League career according to Elias ( Billy Rohr; April 14, 1967)
- Made his Major League debut versus the Giants on June 16, spinning six no-hit innings, only giving up two walks while striking out three in the no decision… joins Ross Stripling as the only Dodger pitchers to pitch at least six no-hit innings in their MLB debut (April 8, 2016)
- Owns a 4-1 record across 12 games (10 starts) with Double-A Tulsa with a 1.86 ERA (11 ER/53.1 IP) with 88 strikeouts and 23 walks…has limited the opposition to a .131/.246/.235 slashline
- He led the Texas League in ERA, strikeouts, batting average against (.131) and WHIP (0.88)
- Currently ranked as the Dodgers’ 13th ranked prospect

COLORADO ROCKIES NOTES:
20TH & BLAKE
- The Colorado Rockies continue their season-long nine-game homestand tonight with the rubber match of a three-game set against the Dodgers … will host the Detroit Tigers Friday-Sunday to conclude the homestand, with fireworks following the Friday and Saturday night games.
- After going 15-13 in May the Rockies have gone 8-17 in June … have been outscored 168-102 (-66) over that span.
- The start of the homestand marked the end of a stretch of 33 games in 34 days for Colorado from May 19-June 21 … the Rockies went 10-23 through the stretch, including 3-13 in their stretch of 16-straight days with a game from June 6-21 … the Rockies play 22 games in the month of July.
THE ROOKIE
- Ezequiel Tovar was reinstated from the paternity list Friday … the 21-year-old has hit safely in a career-best 11 straight (.356, 16-for-45), tied for the fourth-longest active streak in baseball, and in 24 of 27 since May 27 (.333, 35-for-105) … was batting .187 through April 25, but has hit .296 (58-for-196) in 53 games since.
- Tovar’s 1.2 defensive WAR (Baseball Reference) leads all Major League rookies (NYY’s Anthony Volpe in second with 1.1 dWAR), while his 1.6 overall WAR is tied for the third-best among NL rookies.
AIN’T IT GRAND
- C Elias Díaz connected on his third career grand slam on June 23 vs. the Angels, his ninth home run of the season overall … it was the first grand slam for any Rockie since his own on Sept. 10, 2021 at Philadelphia, snapping a franchise-long 258-game span without a grand slam … it was the first grand slam by a Rockies player at Coors Field since Charlie Blackmon on Sept. 2, 2021.
- Díaz became the ninth Rockies player in franchise history to hit a go-ahead grand slam in the eighth inning or later, the first since Blackmon hit a walk-off grand slam against the Angels on Sept. 11, 2020.
A LONG TIME AGO
- The Rockies are hosting the Los Angeles Dodgers at Coors Field for the first time since a four-game series July 28-31, 2022 … Colorado lost two games at Los Angeles on April 3-4 in the second series of the 2023 season.
- Tonight, the Rockies look to win their first series against the Dodgers at home since June 27-29, 2022 when they took two of three.
- 11 players on the Rockies’ current 26-man active roster were not active for the Rockies two games in Los Angeles earlier this season.
- The Rockies are 5-16 against NL West opponents this season, a .238 winning percentage that would be the third-lowest of any team against the NL West in a single season since 1969 (min. 20 games) … the Rockies’ .361 (13-23) winning percentage against their division in 1997 is the lowest in franchise history.
BIG MAC
- 3B Ryan McMahon has slashed .336/.423/.630 with seven doubles, two triples, eight home runs and 22 RBI over his last 31 games since May 25 … over that span, ranks among NL leaders in OPS (1.054, 1st), slugging (3rd), total bases (75, T-3rd), average (4th), hits (40, T-4th), OBP (5th), extra-base hits (17, 7th) and RBI (10th).
- On the season, McMahon’s 20 doubles are tied for the seventh-most in the National League while his 35 extra-base hits are tied for the 10th-most.
- McMahon’s 2.4 WAR (Baseball Reference) is the second-highest among NL players with at least 75% of their games at third base … his 10 defensive runs saved at third base are tied for the most at the position (Sports Info Solutions).
- Since moving to third base full time for the 2021 season, McMahon’s 5.2 dWAR is the fourth-highest in the Majors … his 33 DRS and 28 outs above average are both the second-most through this span.
JONESING
- INF/OF Nolan Jones has been deemed as retaining rookie-eligible status for the 2023 season after it was determined that he did not exceed 45 days on the Cleveland active roster in the 2022 season.
- He has reached safely in 25 of his 28 starts since his recall on May 26 … overall, is slashing .320/.409/.550 with eight doubles, five home runs, 14 RBI, 14 walks, 36 strikeouts and five stolen bases … ranks eighth in the NL in OBP and 13th in batting since joining the club on May 26.
- Jones reached base in a career-long 15 games June 7-21, slashing .385/.492/.712 through this stretch … third-longest on-base streak among Rockies this season, trailing Jurickson Profar (37 games) and Charlie Blackmon (19 games).

MR. ANDERSON
- Chase Anderson will make his ninth start in a Rockies uniform today after being claimed off of waivers from Tampa Bay on May 12.
- Designated for assignment by Tampa Bay on May 10 … acquired by Tampa Bay via trade with Cincinnati in exchange for cash considerations on May 3.
- Was signed by the Reds to a Minor League contract on Feb. 20 after spending the 2022 season with the club.
