TEXAS RANGERS NOTES:

WINS AND LOSSES: Texas beat the Yankees last night, 4-2 in 10 innings, and club has a 3-1 record on this 6-G, 7-day road trip to CWS (2-1) and NYY (1-0 + 2 G)…Rangers have won 2 straight and 5 of last 6 G after a 2-7 span from 6/7- 16…still have a 7-8 record last 15 G beg. 6/7…team is 12-8 in June, and has won 14 of 23, 18 of 28, 21 of 32, and 29 of last 44 G (beg. 5/6)…team still has MLB-best 33-17 (.660) record since 4/28, outscoring its opponents 299-198 (+101) over that span…TEX is 39-22 in last 61 G and 43-24 last 67 G beg. 4/9.

  • At 47-28 (.627), TEX owns the 3rd-best record in MLB to TB (.627, 53-26) and ATL (.640, 48-27)…club’s 47 wins also rank 3rd in MLB (53-TB, 48-ATL, 47-TEX).
  • The 47-28 mark is 2nd-best 75-G start to a season in WSH/ TEX franchise history (see chart below).
  • TEX is 19 G above .500, and could match season high point of 20-over with a win tonight (40-20 after win 6/6 vs. STL…it was team’s most games above .500 since end of 2016 (95-67) and the earliest date/fewest games (6/6 and 60 G) ever to reach that mark.

WITH A WIN TODAY, Texas could:

  • Match high water mark for the season at 20 G above .500, with only other instance on 6/6 (40-20).
  • Produce a 5-G win streak vs. NYY for 1st time since Aug. 17-Sept. 8, 1993 (5-0).
  • Earn a 5th win vs. NYY in 2023, which would match Rangers’ highest single-season total in this century (5 W in 2003 and 2015).
  • Secure a series win in the Bronx for 1st time since 2017 (2-1 from 6/23-25/17).

SERIES STUFF: TEX has won back-to-back series after dropping 2 straight (at TB/vs. LAA)…the consecutive series wins marks 1st since stretch of 6 straight series victories from 5/19-6/7 (longest span for team since club-record 10 straight series victories from 5/20-6/20/16)…club is 17-6-1 overall in series this year, going 8-3-1 at home and 9-3-0 on the road… is 13-3-1 in last 17 series and 16-4-1 in last 21…TEX also won a franchise record 6 straight road series from 5/5-31, and is 7-1-0 in last 8 and 9-2-0 in last 11 away series.

ON THE ROAD: TEX is 23-15 (.605) on the road, T3rd-best away record in MLB (ATL 24-12, .667; ARI 23-13, .639; TEX/ BAL 23-15, .605)…is 4-4 in last 8 G away from Arlington, but has still won 10 of 15, 12 of 18, 14 of 21, and 17 of last 25 road G…last month, TEX tied franchise record for road wins in a calendar month with 13 in May (also Aug. 2013, 13-3).

VS. NEW YORK-AL: TEX is 4-1 vs. NYY in ’23, winning 4 straight since loss 4/27 in Arlington…club has secured a season series win for 1st time since 2016 (4-3), snapping span of 0-3-2 in season series vs. NYY…current 4-0 span is longest win streak vs. NYY since 4/26-6/28/16 (4-0), and last longer span was 5-0 from 8/17-9/8/93…Rangers have won 6 of last 7 vs. NYY, but are still 7-11 in last 18 G and 14-20 in last 34 G (beg. 9/9/17)…TEX has dropped 7 of 9, 9 of 12, and 13 of last 19 in this park beg. 6/29/16, going 18-32 here all-time.

WRECK IT WITH AN UNEXPECTED BLOW: Adolis García hit a 2-R HR on the 1st pitch of the 10th inning last night, providing the final margin in Rangers’ 4-2 victory…some notes on the clutch long ball:

  • It was just the 2nd time since the introduction of the “ghost runner” in 2020 that a Ranger has hit a go-ahead HR on the 1st pitch of an extra inning…the other instance?: Nathaniel Lowe’s walk-off HR on 5/18/22 vs. LAA, a 1st-pitch 2-R HR off Raisel Iglesias w/ TEX trailing 5-4.
  • It was the 4th go-ahead HR in extras in García’s career, but the other 3 all came in the 1st 2 months of his Rangers career in April/May 2021 (last 5/21/21 vs. HOU – walk-off 3-R HR in 10th)…his 4 go-ahead HR in extras rank T5th-most in TEX history, just the 7th Ranger ever with 4-or-more (see chart).
  • It brought García’s RBI total for the year to 60, tied w/ BOS’ Rafael Devers for the MLB lead.

CLUTCH HITTING: Texas had a pair of go-ahead hits in the 8th-or-later last night (Mitch Garver RBI single in 8th, Adolis García 2-R HR in 10th)…it marked just the 4th time since 2012 for the Rangers to produce multiple go-ahead hits in the 8th-or-later, also 6/10/19 at BOS, 8/10/21 at SEA, and 6/12/22 at CWS.
