MLS Preview: FC Cincinnati (13-1-4) at D.C. United (6-8-5)

FC Cincinnati has won each of its last two meetings with D. C. United after D. C. United was unbeaten in the first seven matches between the sides (W4 D3). FC Cincinnati has scored seven goals in the tow wins after scoring a total of four goals in the first seven games.

D. C. United has lost consecutive MLS matches for the first time since March with defeats to Atlanta United FC and Real Salt Lake. Prior to the two most recent defeats, D. C. United had lost only two of its previous 10 regular-season matches (W5 D3).

FC Cincinnati has 43 points through 18 matches, equaling the most by any team at this stage of a season in MLS history (Los Angeles Galaxy in 1998). FC Cincinnati is the first team in the post-shootout era (since 2000) to win 13 of its first 18 matches of a season.

Twelve of D. C. United’s last 14 MNLS goals have been scored in the second half of matches, with seven of those coming after the 75th minute. 42.3% of D. C. United’s goals (11/26) this season have been scored in the final 15 minutes, the highest percentage in MLS this season.

Luciano Acosta recorded a goal and an assist in FC Cincinnati’s win over Toronto FC on Wednesday. Acosta has contributed to at least one goal in seven of his last eight MLS appearances, totaling eight goals and two assists in that time.
