White Sox make four roster moves

CHICAGO – Prior to tonight’s series opener vs. Texas, the Chicago White Sox made the following four roster moves:

  • Placed RHP Lance Lynn on the Bereavement List;
  • Placed INF Romy Gonzalez on the 10-day injured list (retroactive to June 18) with right shoulder inflammation;
  • Recalled RHP Nick Padilla from Class AAA Charlotte;
  • Recalled INF José Rodríguez from Class AA Birmingham.

Lynn, 36, matched the White Sox record yesterday with 16 strikeouts in a loss at Seattle. He is 4-8 with a 6.51 ERA (61 ER/84.1 IP) and 102 strikeouts over 15 starts this season, his third with the Sox. Lynn must remain on the Bereavement List for a minimum of three days and not more than seven.

Rodríguez, 22, is hitting .238/.274/.429 (45-189) with nine doubles, nine home runs, 25 RBI and 26 runs scored over 44 games with Birmingham this season. He is slashing .297/.350/.568 (11-37) with four doubles, two homers and seven RBI over nine games in June.

Rodríguez, 5-11 and 200 pounds, is a career .284/.327/.447 (430-1,513) with 45 homers, 198 RBI, 239 runs scored and 102 stolen bases in five minor-league seasons after signing with the White Sox as a free agent on February 13, 2018. He entered the season rated by MLB.com as the No. 6 prospect in the organization.

Rodríguez, a native of Valverde, Dominican Republic, has no major-league experience and will wear uniform No. 55.

Padilla, 26, is 1-0 with a 5.48 ERA (13 ER/23.0 IP) and 28 strikeouts over 21 games (10 starts) with Charlotte in 2023, his first full season in the White Sox organization. He has made one appearance in two previous stints with the Sox this season, allowing two runs over 2.0 IP on May 10 at Kansas City.

Gonzalez, 26, is batting .194/.208/.376 (18-93) with four doubles, two triples, three home runs, 14 RBI, 11 runs scored and seven stolen bases in 44 games this season, his third with the White Sox.
