MLS Preview: FC Dallas (7-5-5) at Portland Timbers FC (4-7-5)

The Portland Timbers have lost only one of its 12 regular-season home matches against FC Dallas (W7 D4), a 3-1 defeat in April 2016. The visiting side has won just two of the 27 all-time regular-season meetings between the sides, though the last two encounters, including a 1-1 draw in Dallas on April 1, have ended in draws.

The Portland Timbers’ scoreless draw against the Seattle Sounders FC on Saturday was the third it has failed to score in its last four regular season matches. The Portland Timbers had been shutout only three times in their previous 36 regular season matches dating back to late May of last year.

FC Dallas lost it last away match, 2-1, at Sporting Kansas City on May 31. FC Dallas has not recorded the same result in consecutive games in any of its last 22 regular season away matches dating back to April 2022, total six wins, eight draws and eight losses in that time.

The Portland Timbers attempted 11 shots in their scoreless draw with the Seattle Sounders FC on Saturday, but those shots totaled an expected goals value of just 0.27, the lowest any team that has taken 10 or more shots in an MLS match since the beginning of the 2011 season.

Jesus Ferreira scored the winning goal in the 80th minute of FC Dallas’ 2-0 win over St. Louis City SC in the resumed games on Wednesday. it was Ferreira’s fourth goal at the 80th minute or later this season, with three of them being match winners. No other player has more than one match winning goal at 80 minutes or later this season.
