NWSL Match Preview: Kansas City Courage (3-7-0) at OL Reign (5-4-1)

Lumen Field | Seattle, Washington – Saturday, June 10 at 10:00 PM ET

Players to watch:

OL Reign attacker Megan Rapinoe attempted five shots in Saturday’s 2-0 loss to the Thorns, which led the Reign in the match and tied a season high for Rapinoe. It was Rapinoe’s 21st regular season match with five or more shots since 2017, with the Reign winning 13 of those games (D4 L4).

Current forward Kristen Hamilton’s goal in the eighth minute was all Kansas City needed in its 1-0 victory on Saturday. It was Hamilton’s sixth career goal within the first 10 minutes of a match in all NWSL competitions with only Sam Kerr (7) having more such goals since Hamilton scored her first in 2017.

Match facts: OL Reign looks to bounce back from their loss last week and stay near the top of the table as they face a Kansas City Current side that just found its first win in four games last weekend. The Reign are in 5th place entering Saturday night with 16 points through 10 games while Kansas City still sit bottom of the league in 12thwith 9 points from 10 games.

OL Reign saw its run of 14 straight regular season home matches with a goal come to an end in a 2-0 defeat to Portland on Saturday. The Reign haven’t lost consecutive regular season home games since a run of three straight defeats in August-September 2017.

The Current ended a five-game losing streak in all competitions with a 1-0 win over the Courage over the weekend. Kansas City had entered the match with seven consecutive losses when scoring fewer than two goals in all competitions, dating back to last season.

Kansas City and OL Reign are facing off for the first time since the Current knocked the Reign out of the 2022 NWSL playoffs with a 2-0 road win. The Current have won each of the last two matches in the fixture after losing four of the first five meetings (W1) between the clubs in all competitions.

Noted (via Jen Cooper, The Keeper):

Next assist for OL Reign’s Jess Fishlock will be her 25th and she’ll tie Megan Rapinoe for the club record.
OL Reign attacker Megan Rapinoe is two goals away from 50 NWSL regular-season goals.
Next appearance for Current midfielder Lo’eau LaBonta will be 50th regular-season appearance for the club (she’ll be first to hit 50).
