OAKLAND, Calif. — The Oakland A’s recalled infielder Kevin Smith from Triple-A Las Vegas and optioned infielder Nick Allen to Las Vegas, the club announced today.
Smith joins the A’s for the second time this year after hitting .184 with three home runs and seven RBI in 26 games with Oakland during his first stint from April 10 to May 13. He batted .267 with three home runs and nine RBI in 10 games with Las Vegas following his May 14 option and had a .280 average, eight home runs, 21 RBI and a .995 OPS in 17 games overall with the Aviators. The 26-year-old right-handed hitter has started 17 games at shortstop and three at third base with the A’s and made all 17 of his starts with the Aviators at shortstop.
Allen was recalled from Las Vegas on May 2 for his second stint with the A’s this year and hit .221 with a home run and three RBI in 30 games. He is hitting .196 in 38 games overall with Oakland but has a .339 average and .960 OPS in 14 games with the Aviators.
