Cubs Select LHP Ryan Borucki from Triple-A Iowa, option RHP Caleb Kilian to Iowa

MIAMI – The Chicago Cubs today selected left-handed pitcher Ryan Borucki from Triple-A Iowa and optioned right-handed pitcher Caleb Kilian to Iowa.

Borucki, 29, is 10-9 with 13 holds and a 4.45 ERA (84 ER/170.0 IP) in 96 career games (19 starts) between the Blue Jays (2018-22) and Mariners (2022). He has walked 73, struck out 136 and pitched to a 1.40 WHIP in parts of five major league seasons.

Borucki, who will wear uniform number 77, split the 2022 campaign between Toronto and Seattle, going 2-0 with a 5.68 ERA (16 ER/25.1 IP) in 32 relief appearances. He was acquired by the Mariners June 5 for minor league infielder Tyler Keenan and went 2-0 with a 4.26 ERA (9 ER/19.0 IP) in 21 outings for Seattle before he went on the 15-day I.L. August 9 with a season-ending left forearm strain.

The six-foot four-inch Borucki opened this season with Iowa, going 1-0 with a 12.00 ERA (12 ER/9.0 IP) in eight relief appearances with six of his 12 earned runs allowed coming in 1.1 innings April 27 vs. Louisville.

In Nine Minor League Seasons, Borucki Is 31-24 with a 3.46 Era (180 Er/468.0 Ip), Two Complete Games and One save Spanning 107 Games Including 81 As a Starting Pitcher. He Began His Career in a Starting Role Before Transitioning to the Bullpen Full Time Starting with the 2020 Season.

A native of Highland Park, Ill., Borucki graduated from Mundelein (Ill.) High School and was selected by the Blue Jays in the 15th round of the 2012 First-Year Player Draft.

Kilian, 25, made his season debut yesterday in a start against the Marlins (7 ER/3.1 IP) and is 1-0 with a 7.15 ERA (9 ER/11.1 IP) in three starts for Iowa this season.
