A’s place Domingo Acevedo on IL, recall RHP Chad Smith from Las Vegas

OAKLAND, Calif. — The Oakland A’s placed right-handed pitcher Domingo Acevedo on the 15-day injured list retroactive to April 11 with a left back strain and recalled right-handed pitcher Chad Smith from Triple-A Las Vegas, the club announced today.

Acevedo has a 13.50 ERA over his first five games and has allowed eight runs on 10 hits and a walk while striking out four in 5.1 innings. He did not allow a run in eight of his nine appearances during the spring for a 0.96 ERA, .188 opponents batting average and .528 OPS.

Smith has pitched in three games for the Aviators and has a 2.25 ERA, allowing two runs on five hits and four walks while striking out six in 4.0 innings. He posted a 3.12 ERA in nine games this spring and held the opposition to a .133 batting average and .478 OPS before he was optioned to Las Vegas March 30. The 27-year-old right-hander was acquired from Colorado on Dec. 6, 2022 after going 0-1 with a 7.50 ERA and .791 opponents OPS in 15 games over six stints with the Rockies last year in his Major League debut.
