IN THE VALLEY OF THE SUN: The Dodgers closed out their first homestand of the season on Tuesday night, improving to 4-2 on the season with a 5-2 victory over the Rockies. Julio Urías was spectacular, firing 6.0 scoreless innings while striking out six without issuing a walk. At the plate, Will Smith stayed red hot, going 2-for-4 and homering in his third consecutive game. Tonight, the Dodgers begin a seven-game road trip with the first of four with the Arizona Diamondbacks. Following their stay in Arizona, the Dodgers will fly to San Francisco Sunday evening and begin a three-game series with the Giants on Monday night. Tonight is the Diamondbacks’ 2023 home opener and the Dodgers will be taking part in the festivities in Downtown Phoenix for the first since 2008, when Arizona beat the Dodgers, 9-3, behind former Dodgers Dan Haren and Orlando Hudson. Los Angeles beat the D-Backs in their 2003 home opener, getting a complete-game shutout from Hideo Nomo, who bested Hall of Famer Randy Johnson.
DIGGING THE LONGBALL: Los Angeles banged three homers on Tuesday night, including the first of the year for Max Muncy and Will Smith’s third, which tied for second in the Major Leagues.
