DEFENSE TO OFFENSE…The San Jose Sharks defensive corps was held without a point in the team’s opening game of the season but have since gone pointless as a unit in just nine of the last 69 games. Nikolai Knyzhov netted his first goal of the year on Tuesday, his first point since returning to the lineup, and Derrick Pouliot notched his first points with the Sharks, two assists, against Columbus as well. Jacob MacDonald netted his first goal as a Shark on Feb. 28, the lone tally for San Jose against Montreal. Three different Sharks defensemen (Marc-Edouard Vlasic, Erik Karlsson and Matt Benning) found the scoresheet in San Jose’s win against Pittsburgh on Jan. 28, with their five combined points in the contest standing as the tied-fourth-most by Sharks defensemen in a game this season (behind six-point games on Nov 17 vs DET, Dec. 9 at ANA and Dec. 22 vs MIN).
