MLS Preview: Los Angeles Football Club (2-0-0) at Seattle Sounders FC (2-1-0)

In their first MLS match, Los Angeles Football Club defeated Seattle 1-0 in March 2018. Since then, Seattle has not lost to Los Angeles Football Club in six consecutive home matches (W4 D2). Only one of either team’s two road victories in the series came in March 2018, when Seattle defeated Los Angeles 3-1 in the West Final.

Seattle returns home after losing to Cincinnati 1-0 on Saturday, where it won its first two games by a combined score of 6-0. In 2019 and 2021, Seattle prevailed in its first three home games, with the third victory coming against Los Angeles Football Club in 2021.

It is only the second time since 2000 that a defending MLS Cup champion has won its first two games of a season (Colorado won its first three in 2011), but Los Angeles Football Club has won back-to-back games to open a season for the third time in the club’s history (2018, 2019).

In Seattle’s first two games at home this season, Jordan Morris and the injured Heber scored goals. Obafemi Martins was the only Sounders player in 2015 to score in the team’s first three home games.

In Sunday’s 4-0 victory over New England, Los Angeles Football Club’s Denis Bouanga scored twice and assisted on a third goal. Bouanga has scored two goals and two assists in two games this MLS season, up from three goals and three assists in 10 games (including playoffs) for Los Angeles Football Club last season.
