The Calgary Flames finished off a three-game homestand on Saturday night against the Minnesota Wild. Both teams fired eight shots on goal in the first, but it would be Minnesota’s Joel Eriksson Ek who would break the scoreless deadlock, tipping home his 22nd of the season to put the Wild up 1-0 through 20. In the second, the Flames fired 11 shots on goal but couldn’t solve Filip Gustavsson while Jakob Markstrom turned aside all 12 pucks he faced in the middle frame to keep the Flames within one. In the third, Minnesota would score a pair of goals, and Calgary fell 3-0.

TONIGHTS STORYLINES & STATS
This is the second of three matchups this season between the Flames and Stars. The Flames won 6-5 in the clubs first meeting in January. This is a Pacific Division versus Central Division matchup; The Flames have an overall record of 7-8-2 against Central Division opponents this season and a record of 16-11-5 against Western Conference opponents.

LAST MEETING WITH THE STARS:
The Flames met Dallas for a matinee game back on January 14th. Calgary would start the scoring just 25 seconds in with Andrew Mangiapane outwaiting Scott Wedgewood on the backhand to slide home his ninth of the season and give the Flames an early 1-0 lead. Calgary would double their advantage later in the first with Trevor Lewis scoring his first power play goal since the 2017-18 campaign to make it 2-0 for the Flames. Jamie Benn would score in the late stages of the first to cut the lead in half, but Calgary skated into the intermission up 2-1. The Flames offense would explode in the second to the tune of four goals in the middle stanza with Lindholm, Kadri, Andersson and Tanev all contributing to put Calgary up 6- 1. The Stars would claw back in the third to get within one, but the Flames were able to lock things down and prevail 6-5.

BACK-TO-BACKS:
The Flames enter their third last set of back-to-backs this season with a quick two-game trip to Dallas and Minnesota. Calgary’s last back-to-back came on February 22-23 when they earned three of a possible four points with a 6-3 win in Arizona, followed by a 4-3 overtime loss in Vegas. Jakob Pelletier led the Flames through the pair of games with two-consecutive two-point games (2-2 – 4) followed by Mikael Backlund who had two goals and an assist for three points in the pair of contests. Calgary is 1-4-2 in the first half of back-to-backs and 3-2-2 in the second half.

The Stars tied their season high for goals in a game with seven even-strength tallies in a 7-3 victory over the Colorado Avalanche on Saturday (first: 7-2 win on Nov. 3, 2022 at Arizona). Jason Robertson (2-1—3), Joe Pavelski (1-1—2) and Roope Hintz (0-2—2) each had multi-point efforts, and all three factored on two goals against the Avs. The trio have combined on 14 goals this season which trails only Connor McDavid, Leon Draisaitl and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins (19). Rookie forward Wyatt Johnston (1-0—1) scored his 15th goal of the season to move past Valeri Nichushkin (14 in 2013-14 and in 2014-15) for the most career goals by a teenager in Dallas Stars team history. Forward Mason Marchment (1-0—1) busted a 32-game goal drought, Radek Faksa (1-0—1) tallied his eighth goal of 2022-23 and defenseman Miro Heiskanen (1-0—1) netted his ninth goal of the season. DALLAS STARS NOTES
TONIGHT’S GAME: The Stars close out a two-game homestand tonight against the Calgary Flames at American Airlines Center. (7:30 p.m. CT, TV: Bally Sports Southwest, Radio: The Ticket 96.7-FM/1310-AM). This is the second of three meetings between the two clubs and one of two in a span of 12 days. Calgary opened the series opener with a 6-4 victory at American Airlines Center on Jan. 14. Following tonight’s game, the Stars will embark on their longest road trip of the season – a six-game trek that begins March 9 in Buffalo and concludes March 18 in Calgary.
