CALGARY FLAMES NOTES:
FLAMES LAST GAME RECAP
JANUARY 23, 2023 – CALGARY FLAMES [4] vs. COLUMBUS BLUE JACKETS [3]
It was an emotionally charged night at the Scotiabank Saddledome as the Flames welcomed Johnny Gaudreau and the Columbus Blue Jackets on Monday. Calgary came out of the gates firing on all cylinders, and despite a solid opening frame from Jackets netminder Jonas Korpisalo, the Flames were able to find the back of the net with Walker Duehr scoring his first home goal in the NHL to give the Flames a 1-0 lead through 20. In the second, Nazem Kadri extended the Flames lead with his team-leading 19th goal of the season. Later in the period, the Jackets would score a pair of quick goals from Kriill Marchenko and Patrik Laine to even the score at two’s. Andrew Mangiapane would respond for Calgary, netting his 10th and restoring the Flames lead through 40. In the third, Columbus captain Boone Jenner would once again tie the game and despite 13 third period shots from the Flames, the game headed to overtime. In the extra frame, Andrew Mangiapane found himself on a two-on-one with Dillon Dube who took the feed from Mangiapane to rifle home his second-straight game-winning goal and the Flames prevailed 4-3 in overtime.
