GOLDEN KNIGHTS LAST GAME RECAP
January 16 – Vegas Golden Knights 2, Detroit Red Wings 3
The Vegas Golden Knights (28-16-2) were knocked off by the Detroit Red Wings (19-17-8) by a score of 3-2 on Thursday night at TMobile Arena. After Lucas Raymond’s opening goal less than three minutes into the game, Alex Pietrangelo got Vegas on the board and the teams went into the break level at 1-1. Dominik Kubalkik and Joe Veleno socred in the middle frame as Detroit carried a 3-1 lead into the third. A late goal from William Karlsson wasn’t enough in the 3-2 loss.
LAST GAME BY THE NUMBERS
- Karlsson’s goal was his third in four games to bring his total to 10 on the season
- Reilly Smith’s two helpers gave him his seventh multi-point game of the season
- Pietrangelo’s goal was Vegas’ first blue-liner tally since Nic Hague’s overtime winner on Dec. 31
Against the Capitals
Vegas’ contest with Washington on Saturday is the last of two meetings this season. The Golden Knights own a 7-2-0 record against the Capitals, and swept their series in 2021-22. In their previous meeting, Vegas came away with a thrilling 3-2 overtime victory at Capital One Arena on November 1. Jack Eichel got the Golden Knights on the board, while William Carrier tied things up late in the third to send Vegas into overtime. Shea Theodore was the hero after scoring 1:35 into overtime with an assist from Eichel and Alex Pietrangelo. While the Washington-Vegas series is best known for the 2018 Stanley Cup Final, the Golden Knights have won four in a row in the series including two overtime victories. Vegas has the opportunity to sweep another regular season series with a win on Saturday over Washington (Chicago, Ottawa, Toronto, Winnipeg).
