TONIGHT’S MATCHUP
Tonight, the Islanders host the Minnesota Wild in the first of two meetings between the clubs this season. The Islanders will look to earn their first win against Minnesota since December 29, 2019. It has been nearly a year since these teams last met on January 30, 2022 when Ross Johnston and Brock Nelson each scored, but the Islanders fell to the Wild, 4-3. Last season, the Islanders dropped both decisions to Minnesota in their two-game season series.

AGAINST THE CENTRAL DIVISION
Tonight, the Islanders will look to improve upon their 4-6-2 record against Central Division opponents, after collecting a point in the shootout against Dallas on Tuesday evening. Each of their last two games against Central teams have ended in a shootout (Jan. 10 vs. DAL, Dec. 19 at COL).

HOME STAND
Tonight, the Islanders play the second contest of a five-game home stand. They will play eight home games in the month of January, their busiest month this season. The Islanders have collected points in their last four straight home games, with a 3-0-1 record since December 23 on UBS Arena ice. In that span, they have outscored opponents 13-4 and allowed just one regulation goal each game. Tuesday night’s matchup saw the Islanders extend their point streak at home, as they collected a point in the shootout against Dallas. The Islanders are 8-4-1 at home since the beginning of November.

The Islanders are seven-for-seven on the penalty kill in their last four matchups at home. The Islanders have not allowed a power play goal on home ice since December 2 against Nashville, and they enter tonight’s matchup 89.4% on the penalty kill at UBS Arena, leading the NHL.
