JANUARY 8, 2023 – CALGARY FLAMES [3] vs. CHICAGO BLACKHAWKS 4
The Calgary Flames began a five-game Central Division road trip on Sunday night in Chicago. The Blackhawks drew first blood just 2:39 into the contests courtesy of Lukas Reichel’s first NHL goal. The Flames would respond on the power play with Elias Lindholm sliding home his 13th on the campaign, but Colin Blackwell would restore Chicago’s lead shortly after and the score was 2-1 through 20. In the second, Philipp Kurashev scored just 0:35 into the frame to give the Blackhawks a two-goal lead. The Flames would battle back with goals from Jonathan Huberdeau and a second power play marker from Nazem Kadri to tie the game at three before the end of the second. No goals were scored in the third, and in overtime Max Domi was the hero for Chicago and the Flames claimed a point in a 4-3 overtime defeat.

This is the second of three matchups this season between the Flames and Blues. The Flames fell 5-2 in the teams opening meeting in December. FIRST MEETING WITH ST. LOUIS:
The Calgary Flames welcomed the St. Louis Blues to the Saddledome on December 16th. The Blues struck first with Ivan Barbashev scoring the games opening goal just 4:07 into the contest, but later in the frame, Connor Mackey would net his first of the season for the Flames and the two teams would skate into the first intermission tied at one. In the second Jordan Kyrou would bury the only goal of the period and through 40 it was 2-1 Blues. Pavel Buchnevich recorded his 10th of the season just under four minutes into the third to extend the Blues lead to two, but later in the period Connor Mackey would strike again for Calgary, scoring his second of the game for his first NHL multi-goal game, drawing the Flames within one. The Blues would quickly restore their two-goal lead with Brandon Saad scoring just over a minute later. Kyrou would add his second of the night in the late stages of the game, and the Blues won 5-2.
