THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW
• Tonight is Seattle’s fourth of seven consecutive games that they will play on the road. Their seven-game road trip is their longest such stretch of the season and will conclude on Jan. 14 at Chicago. The team’s current stretch of seven road games are the most consecutive games they have played on the road in franchise history.
• Tonight’s game is the last of four consecutive games the Kraken will play against Canadian teams. The team defeated the Oilers 5-2 in Edmonton on Jan. 3, the Maple Leafs 5-1 in Toronto on Jan. 5 and the Senators 8-4 in Ottawa on Jan. 7. This is the second time in the team’s history that it has played four consecutive games against Canadian teams (last: Feb. 14 to 21, 2022) and the first time that all four of those game have been played in Canada.
• A win tonight would give the Kraken wins in at least five consecutive games for the third time this season. The team previously won five straight games from Oct. 29 to Nov. 8 and then won a franchise-best seven straight games from Nov. 17 to Dec. 1.
• A win tonight would also make the Canadiens the fourth team that the Kraken have defeated in consecutive road games. They have previously won at least two consecutive road games against the Florida Panthers (Nov. 27, 2021 and Dec. 1, 2022), Los Angeles Kings (March 28, 20222, Oct. 13, 2022 and Nov. 29, 2022) and the Pittsburgh Penguins (Jan. 27, 2022 and Nov. 5, 2022).
• Tonight’s game against the Canadiens and tomorrow’s game against the Sabres is the Kraken’s second back-to-back set this season. The team will play in eight total back-to-back sets this year, five of which where both games are played on the road. The Kraken went 1-0-1 in the first back-to-back set of the season, falling 5-4 in overtime to the Ducks on Oct. 12 and defeating the Kings 4-1 on Oct. 13.
• Martin Jones’ 18 wins were tied for the third-most in the NHL this season entering play Sunday. Despite only playing in 28 games this year, his 18 wins are his most in a season since he won 36 games in 2018-19 while playing for the San Jose Sharks.
• Jamie Oleksiak’s next point will be the 100th of his NHL career. He is set to become the seventh defenseman from the 2011 NHL Draft class to reach the milestone.
• According to Natural Stat Trick, the Kraken ranked eighth in the NHL with a 51.9 percent Corsi rating entering play Sunday. The Kraken are outshooting their opponents 928-811 at five-on-five this season. Their 53.4 percent shot share was good for seventh in the NHL entering play Sunday according to Natural Stat Trick.
