A LOOK AT JANUARY
The Blue Jackets snapped their seven-game losing streak following a 4-1 victory over the Chicago Blackhawks on Saturday. Columbus begins the 2023 portion of the schedule with eight-straight games against Eastern Conference teams. The stretch from January 3-16 includes five contests vs. Metropolitan Division opponents. The club plays a season-high 16 games in the month of January with three sets of back-to-back games (Jan. 7 vs. CAR/Jan. 8 at WSH; Jan. 16. vs. NYR/ Jan. 17 at NSH; Jan. 27 at VAN/Jan. 28 at SEA).
OTTAWA SENATORS NOTES:
LAST GAME: Jan. 1, 3-1 win vs. Buffalo: The Senators opened 2023 with a 3-1 victory over Buffalo at Canadian Tire Centre. Stützle opened the scoring for Ottawa just 47 seconds into the game to mark the fastest opening marker by a Senators skater since 10/23/21. He would add a second tally into an empty net at 18:49 of the third period to surpass Daigle for most career multi-point games (25) by a Senators skater before their 21st birthday. Lucchini recorded his first career NHL goal in between Stützle markers becoming the 286th different skater to score for the club and the fourth to do so at age 27 or older. Girgensons provided the lone Buffalo goal while Giroux contributed two assists for the home side. Forsberg earned the win for Ottawa in making 33 saves while Anderson (the second consecutive game in which Ottawa faced a former Senators goaltender) took the loss for Buffalo with 30 saves on 32 shots.
