CALGARY FLAMES NOTES:

FLAMES LAST GAME RECAP
DECEMBER 22, 2022 – CALGARY FLAMES [3] vs. Los Angeles Kings 4
The Calgary Flames continued a four-game California road trip with a stop at the Crypto.com Arena for a clash with the Los Angeles Kings. The Flames started the game on the front foot again with Milan Lucic springing Jonathan Huberdeau on a breakaway and Huberdeau would slide the puck five-hole to give the Flames an early 1-0 advantage. In the ladder stages of the first, Gabe Vilardi would deflect a Sean Walker point shot past Dan Vladar to even the score heading into the first intermission. Neither team would find the back of the net in the second, but in the third the Kings would get goals 10 seconds apart from Phillip Danault and Blake Lizotte and just like that it was 3-1 LA. The Flames would battle back with Tyler Toffoli cutting the deficit to one on the power play and Dillon Dube firing his eighth on the campaign past Copley to once again tie the game and the teams headed to overtime. In the extra frame the two clubs would trade chances, but it would ultimately be Adrian Kempe who would score the game winner for LA and the Kings won 4-3.

TONIGHTS STORYLINES & STATS
This is the first of four matchups this season between the Flames and Ducks. The Flames won three of their four meetings against the Ducks last season, outscoring them 16-10. This is a Pacific Division Matchup; The Flames have an overall record of 5-2-2 against Pacific Division opponents this season and a record of 9-4-2 against Western Conference opponents.

LAST SEASON AGAINST THE DUCKS:
The Flames and Ducks squared off four times last season, with the Flames going 3-0-1 against their Pacific Division foe, outscoring them 16-10. Their first matchup came on the Flames home opener in October of 2021 which saw Blake Coleman score his first as a Flame along with Elias Lindholm, but the Flames fell 3-2 in overtime. The two clubs wouldn’t meet again until December where Blake Coleman and Elias Lindholm would once again both score for the Flames and the game went to a shootout where Dan Vladar repelled both Anaheim attempts to give the Flames a 4-3 win. Their first meeting of 2022 came at the Scotiabank Saddledome which saw the Flames route the Ducks 6-2 with Elias Lindholm recording a pair of goals along with an assist and First Star honors. Their final meeting once again saw Elias Lindholm find the back of the net, while Michael Stone scored his first of the season to help the Flames over Anaheim 4-2.

LINDHOLM VERSUS THE DUCKS:
Elias Lindholm scored in every meeting with Anaheim last season totaling five goals and an assist for six points in four
games against the Ducks. Over his career, Lindholm has seven goals and five assists for 12 points in 18 career meetings
against Anaheim and has three goals and an assist for four points in five trips to the Honda Center since being acquired
by Calgary prior to the 2018-19 season. Coming into tonight’s contest, Lindholm has two goals and six assists for eight
points in his last four games.

HOT START:
Jonathan Huberdeau opened the scoring in Los Angeles on Thursday night just 3:23 into the contest to give the Flames the early lead. That marked the 37th time this season the Flames have scored within the first five minutes of a game which is tied for the most goals in the opening five minutes of a game in the NHL and leads all Western Conference teams. The Flames scored twice in the opening five minutes two games ago in San Jose with Tyler Toffoli and Dillon Dube both finding the back of the net in 30 seconds to set a franchise record for the fastest two goals to begin a game in franchise history.

MEAN MILAN:
Milan Lucic has recorded points in three straight games with two goals and two assists for four points so far on the Flames California road trip. Lucic extended his season-long three game point-streak on Thursday night in Los Angeles with the primary assist on Jonathan Huberdeau’s game-opening goal. Lucic began the streak in San Jose where he scored his first goal of the season against the Sharks on Sunday and followed it up two days later in San Jose with his first multi-point game since February 6th, 2021 with a goal and an assist to go along with a plus/minus rating of +4.

DUCK HUNTERS:
The Flames have won their last four trips to the Honda Center dating back to the 2019-20 season. The Flames won both matchups in Anaheim last season, the teams did not play during the COVID shortened 2021 season and in 2019-20 the Flames were also 2-0 in Anaheim outscoring the Ducks 16-6 over the three-year span. Nazem Kadri currently leads the Flames with 22 points in 24 matchups with the Ducks (10G, 12A) and had a two point night in his only trip to the Honda Center last season.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS:
This will be the Flames final game of their four-game California road trip and last contest before the Christmas break. The Flames have gone 2-0-1 so far on the trip, outscoring their opponents 15-9 thus far with Elias Lindholm leading the team with six points on the trip. Following this game, the Flames will return to action on December 27th for the Battle of Alberta against the Oilers at the Scotiabank Saddledome.
