Minnesota Lynx to Open 2023 Regular Season on Friday, May 19 vs. Chicago Sky at Target Center

The 2023 campaign includes a league-record 40 regular-season games

MINNEAPOLIS/ST. PAUL – The Minnesota Lynx today announced the team’s schedule for the upcoming 2023 regular season. The Lynx will tip off their historic 25th WNBA season, presented by Mayo Clinic, at Target Center against the Chicago Sky on Friday, May 19 at 7:00 p.m. CT, marking the 16th time in club history opening the regular season at home. Minnesota will start the season with consecutive home games, before a three-game road stint beginning with the Phoenix Mercury on Thursday, May 25 at 9:00 p.m. CT.

The 2023 campaign features a league-record 40 regular-season games from May 19 through Sept. 10. Full season memberships are available by visiting lynxbasketball.com/membership or calling 612-673-8400. Single-game tickets will be released at a later date.

Minnesota’s 20-game Target Center schedule includes 11 weekend games (five Friday, two Saturday and four Sunday) and nine weekday games (four Tuesday, two Wednesday and three Thursday). The Lynx have a four-game homestand (July 5-July 12) to close out the first portion of the season. The away portion of the schedule features three road trips with at least three games in length (May 25-30, June 16-20 and Aug. 8-18).

The first half of the schedule is highlighted by notable matchups against the reigning WNBA Champions Las Vegas Aces on Sunday, May 28 on the road and a home contest against the Aces on Sunday, July 9. Minnesota will face the Los Angeles Sparks three times in a 10-day period, starting with a matchup at Target Center on June 11 and on the road on June 16 and June 20. The first half of the season wraps up with a four-game home stint, kicking off against the Indiana Fever on July 5 and ending with the annual Camp Day on July 12 vs. Dallas.

By month, the schedule breaks down as follows: May (two home, three away = five total), June (five home, six away = 11 total), July (seven home, three away = 10 total), August (four home, six away = 10 total) and September (two home, two away = four total).

Minnesota will play seven of its’ 10 games in July at Target Center, marking a franchise-high in total games played in one month and games played at Target Center in a single month. This is just one game shy of tying the league record of 11 regular season games played in a calendar month set by Los Angeles in 2000.

By day, the schedule breaks down as follows: Tuesday (four home, six away = 10 total), Wednesday (two home, one away = three total), Thursday (three home, four away = seven total), Friday (five home, three away = eight total), Saturday (two home, two away = four total), Sunday (four home, four away = eight total).
Minnesota’s 20-game home schedule will feature four different starting times (all times central): 14 games tip off at 7:00 p.m., four games will commence at 6:00 p.m., one game will begin at 12:00 p.m. and one game will start at 8:00 p.m.
The Lynx will begin the regular season slate at home against Chicago on Friday, May 19 marking the fourth time in franchise history the club has opened the regular season against the Sky. Minnesota has defeated the Sky in all three regular season debuts so far, most recently on May 25, 2019 at Target Center.

On five occasions, Minnesota will face the same opponent in consecutive games: Los Angeles (6/11 and 6/16), Seattle (6/27 and 6/29; 8/18 and 8/20), Connecticut (7/30 and 8/1) and Dallas (8/22 and 8/24). Four of the five sets will include both a home and away game, except when the Lynx visit Connecticut on July 28 and August 1.

Minnesota will enjoy a season-long, four-game homestand from July 5-July 12 (vs. Indiana, Phoenix, Las Vegas and Dallas). The Lynx will also have one three-game homestand: July 20-25 (vs. Los Angeles, Las Vegas and Washington).

The most consecutive road games this season for the Lynx are three strings of three: from May 25-30 (at Phoenix, Las Vegas and Dallas), June 16-20 (at Los Angeles, Las Vegas and Los Angeles) and July 8– July 18 (at Chicago, Indiana and Seattle). Minnesota will also have four stretches of two consecutive road games: June 3-7 (at Washington and New York), June 29-July 1 (at Seattle and Phoenix), July 30-Aug.1 (at Connecticut) and Sept. 8-10 (at Chicago and Indiana).

The Commissioner’s Cup presented by Coinbase, an in-season tournament pitting conference rivals against each other during the first half of the regular season, will return for its third season. The 10 designated “Cup games” per team will be the first home game and first road game each team plays against its five conference rivals, all completed from May 19 – July 12. The team from each conference with the top record in Commissioner’s Cup presented by Coinbase games will compete for a half-a-million-dollar prize pool in the Commissioner’s Cup Championship presented by Coinbase on Tuesday, Aug. 15. The AT&T WNBA All-Star 2023, the 19th All-Star Game in league history, will be played on Saturday, July 15. More information about AT&T WNBA All-Star will be forthcoming.
