Team Notes: – Jordie Benn scored the game-winning goal for Toronto at 10:01 of the second period posting his first goal as a Maple Leaf in his debut with the club. Per NHL Stats, “Jordie Benn (35 years, 109 days) became the second oldest player in Maple Leafs history to score a goal in his franchise debut, behind only Patrick Marleau (38 years, 19 days; 2-0—2 on Oct. 4, 2017). Benn also became the second defenceman in Maple Leafs franchise history to score the gamewinning goal in his club debut, doing so over 100 years after it was first done by Joe Matte on Jan. 17, 1920.”
- Mitch Marner recorded the primary assist on Auston Matthews’ power play goal. Marner extended his assist and point streak to nine games where he has posted 13 points (2G, 11A). Marner tied the second-longest assist streak of his NHL career, he previously posted a nine-game assist streak during the 2021-22 season (March 26 to April 9).
