Carl Grundstrom opened the scoring nine second into Saturday night’s game against Detroit, marking the second-fastest goal to begin a game in franchise history behind Dave Williams (0:07 on Feb. 14, 1987 vs. Hartford). Saturday’s game also marked the seventh time this season the LA Kings have scored first in a game. Of those seven games, LA has gone on to win five of them for a .714 winning percentage when scoring the game’s first goal. Kevin Fiala followed up his overtime game-winning goal Thursday night against the Blackhawks with his fifth goal of the season on Saturday against the Red Wings, marking his 299th career NHL point. Fiala enters tonight with a team-leading 16 points (5-11=16) in 17 games this season. Fiala’s overtime goal on Thursday night marked his 15th point (4-11=15) in his 16th game on the season. Per NHL PR, Fiala became the first Kings player to record his first 15 points with the team in 16 games or fewer since Ryan Smyth in 2009-10 (6-9=15 in 11 GP). Forward Adrian Kempe tallied his 100th career assist Saturday night with his secondary assist on Kevin Fiala’s first period goal. In doing so, Kempe became the 20th member from the 2014 NHL Draft Class to reach such feat. The Calgary Flames welcomed the Winnipeg Jets to the Scotiabank Saddledome for the first and only time this season on Saturday night. The Flames once again came out of the gates flying with Elias Lindholm scoring just 3:23 into the game. However, Neal Pionk would tie the game for the Jets before Adam Ruzicka helped the Flames retake the lead heading into the break. The two teams would trade goals in the second with Dubois scoring for Winnipeg and Trevor Lewis recording a shorthanded marker for the Flames which would hold up to be the game winner. Tonight will be Nikita Zadorov’s 500th NHL game played. The Moscow, RUS native was a first round pick of Buffalo back in the 2013 NHL Draft and played 67 games for the Sabres before he was traded to Colorado. He played 289 games with the Avalanche and then played 55 games with the Blackhawks in 2021 season. He was acquired by the Flames from Chicago for a third-round pick in July of 2021. After assisting Trevor Lewis’s game-winning shorthanded goal on Saturday night, Mikael Backlund has jumped to second all-time in career shorthanded points in Flames franchise history with 26. Backlund jumped Bill Clement’s 25 points and sits 15 points behind franchise leader Theoren Fleury. Backlund has two shorthanded points this season.

Noah Hanifin skated in game number 530 of his career on Saturday’s win against Winnipeg which leads all players from the 2015 draft class.
