Ryan Nugent-Hopkins scored his 200th career goal with the Oilers on Oct. 26 at STL which stood as the game
winning goal. Nugent-Hopkins becomes just the ninth player in Oilers history to record 200 goals with the Oilers and

The Oilers posted a franchise high 26 shots on goal in one period on October 24th vs. PIT. The previous record of 24 shots was done three times and most recently against Calgary on Feb. 1/20. Evander Kane also posted a team high nine shots against the Penguins and tied an Oilers record for most shots in a period by a player, recording eight shots in the second period. Taylor Hall co-holds the record, posting eight shots previously on Feb. 19/11 vs. ATL). ART ROSS MCDAVID
The 2021-22 campaign saw McDavid (44-79–123 in 80 GP) lead the League in points for the second straight season, giving him the opportunity to become the first player to win three consecutive Art Ross trophies since Jaromir Jagr (1997-98 – 2000-01). A 100-point campaign in 2022-23 would mark McDavid’s sixth, tying him with Sidney Crosby for the most among active players and trailing only Wayne Gretzky (15x), Mario Lemieux (10x), Marcel Dionne (8x), Peter Stastny (7x) and Mike Bossy (7x) atop the all-time list.
McDAVID HITS 700-POINT MARK WITH SEASON-OPENING HAT TRICK
With Edmonton trailing 3-0 midway through the second period, Oilers captain Connor McDavid factored on four of his club’s five consecutive goals, capping off the night with the NHL’s first hat trick of the 2022-23 season. McDavid (3-1—4) boosted his career totals to 242-459—701 (488 GP) and became the fastest active player to reach the 700- point milestone.
- The three-goal performance marked the second season-opening hat trick of McDavid’s career (also Oct. 4, 2017) as he became the third player in NHL history to record multiple hat tricks in season openers alongside Brendan Shanahan (2) and Cam Neely (2).
- The Oilers overcame a three-goal deficit to win a season-opening game for the first time in franchise history. Edmonton became just the ninth club in NHL history to do so and the first since Anaheim on Oct. 5, 2017. Coincidentally, the Ducks overcame a 3-1 deficit Wednesday night to record their second-ever multi-goal comeback win in a season opener.

HURRICANES vs. OILERS SERIES NOTES
— The Hurricanes are facing the Oilers in the second of two meetings between the teams during the 2022-23 season.
— Carolina and Edmonton have met 83 times in their regular-season histories. Carolina holds a 30-38-12-3 overall record, including a 18-

NEXT MAN UP
After Frederik Andersen left Tuesday’s practice with an injury, Antti Raanta made his fifth start of the season at FLA (11/9). He stopped 33 of the Panthers’ 35 shots, marking the most saves of any Hurricanes goaltender in any game in 2022-23 and his fourth-most in any game with Carolina. Raanta has now posted a 2.09 goals-against average and .914 save percentage this season, both of which lead the team, and Wednesday’s game marked his first regulation loss of the campaign (3-1-1). Pyotr Kochetkov was also recalled from Chicago (AHL) on Tuesday and served as Raanta’s backup against the Panthers. Kochetkov has posted a 2-2-1 record, 3.00 goals-against average and .911 save percentage in five AHL games in 2022-23 after going 13-1-1 in the regular season and 5-1 in the playoffs last season to help the Wolves win the Calder Cup. Kochetkov also made three NHL regular-season appearances (3-0-0) and four playoff appearances (1-2) with Carolina in 2021-22. He became just the second goaltender in franchise history to win each of his first three NHL games, the 11th in NHL history to record his first three career wins in a span of four days and the only netminder in league history to accomplish that feat in three road games.
DRURY DUTY
Jack Drury was recalled from Chicago (AHL) on Monday and made his Hurricanes season debut against the Panthers on Wednesday, logging 9:04 of ice time and winning six of eight faceoffs. He played the first two NHL games of his career last season and scored a goal in both, becoming just the fifth player in franchise history to accomplish the feat. Drury has tallied three points (1g, 2a) in eight AHL games in 2022-23 after posting 52 points (20g, 32a) in 68 regular-season games with the Wolves last season. He also registered 24 points (9g, 15a) in 19 AHL playoff games in 2022 to help the Wolves win the Calder Cup, earning a point in 16 of those contests and finishing tied for second in goals and tied for third in points among all AHL skaters during the postseason.
EDMONTON FOILERS
Sebastian Aho recorded three assists in Carolina’s game at Edmonton on 10/20, and he has posted 20 points (9g, 11a) in 11 career games against the Oilers. Andrei Svechnikov also scored the first regular-season hat trick of his NHL/Hurricanes career (3g) in the teams’ first matchup this season, and he has now tallied 11 points (4g, 7a) in seven career games against Edmonton. Both players’ career scoring rates against the Oilers mark their highest against any NHL opponent, and Aho (1.82) and Svechnikov (1.57) rank first and third, respectively, in points per game against the Oilers among all active skaters with at least five games played against Edmonton.

SHOOTERS SHOOT
The Hurricanes outshot the Panthers 40-36 on Wednesday, marking their fourth 40-shot outing in 2022-23, and they have now outshot their opponents in 12 of 13 games this season. Carolina has now registered at least 35 shots in nine games, tied for the third-most such games of any NHL team. The Hurricanes are posting the third-most shots per game of any team this season (37.2) while allowing the second-fewest (26.5), and their +10.7 shot differential ranks second in the NHL (NJD: +13.0). Sebastian Aho, Martin Necas and Stefan Noesen each registered a team-high six shots against the Panthers, and Necas leads all Hurricanes forwards with 43 shots in 2022-23.
STAALVILLE
Jordan Staal faced his brothers, Eric and Marc, at FLA (11/9), marking the 11th time that all three played in the same game in their NHL careers and their first such matchup since 3/31/16. The game marked his 674th contest with Carolina since joining the team in 2012-13, as he passed Jeff O’Neill (1995-04: 673 GP) for the sixth-most games played in franchise history. Staal now needs just 21 more games to pass Rod Brind’Amour (2000-10: 694 GP) for fifth on that list.
FLYING FISH
Sebastian Aho ranks second on the team in assists (8) and points (15) and tied for second in goals (7) in 2022-23 after leading the Hurricanes in goals, assists and points in each of the past two seasons (2020-22). He has recorded 416 points (189g, 227a) in his NHL/Hurricanes career and needs just one point to pass Jeff O’Neill (1995-04: 198g, 218a) for the fifth-most points in franchise history. Aho now ranks fourth in career points and second in goals among players from the 2015 NHL Draft despite being selected by Carolina with the 35th overall pick in the second round.

The Hurricanes went 0-for-3 on the power play at FLA (11/9), marking the first time in five games that they were held scoreless on the man-advantage. Stefan Noesen scored Carolina’s only goal against the Maple Leafs on Sunday, and he has tallied six points (2g, 4a) in 2022-23, with both of his goals coming on the power play. His two goals on the man-advantage mark a new NHL single-season high, as he entered this season with just one power-play goal in his NHL career (3/5/20 vs. MIN, while with SJS). Noesen trails only Andrei Svechnikov (3) in that category this season after scoring an AHL career-high 13 goals on the man-advantage in 2021-22.
HEAT CZECH
Martin Necas has been held scoreless in back-to-back games (11/6-11/9) after posting a career-long, six-game point streak (10/24-11/4: 4g, 6a). He paces the Hurricanes in assists (10) and points (17) in 2022-23, and his 17 points marked the second-most by any Whalers/Hurricanes player through the opening 11 games of any season (Eric Staal, 2005-06: 9-13—22).
