THE GREAT 88
Martin Necas registered two assists vs. WSH (10/31) to extend his point streak to four games (10/24-10/31: 2g 4a), tied for the longest point streak of his NHL/Hurricanes career. He has now posted two four-game point streaks in 2022-23 (also 10/12-10/20: 3g, 4a) after failing to record a point in four consecutive games last season. Necas also leads the team with four multi-point games this season after posting eight multi-point games in 78 contests in 2021-22. His four such outings are tied for the fourth-most by any Whalers/Hurricanes skater through nine games in any season. Necas leads the team with 13 points (5g, 8a) through nine games this season after posting just five points (2g, 3a) in Carolina’s opening nine games in 2021-22.

SVECHING FIRE
Andrei Svechnikov scored the game-tying goal in the second period vs. WSH (10/31) and added the game-deciding goal in the shootout. He has scored a team-high eight goals in 2022-23, ranking tied for third among all NHL skaters and joining Geoff Sanderson (1993-94: 8-3—11) as the second player in franchise history to score eight goals through Hartford/Carolina’s opening nine games of a season. Svechnikov has tallied 10 points (8g, 2a) this season and ranks tied with Sebastian Aho (4g, 6a) for second on the team in scoring. With his goal in the shootout, he improved to 7-for-13 (53.8%) in shootouts during his NHL/Hurricanes career and now trails only Jussi Jokinen (2009-13: 10) and Matt Cullen (2005-06, 2007-10: 8) for the most shootout goals by any Hurricanes skater since the NHL implemented them in 2005-06. Svechnikov’s five game-deciding goals are now the most in team history, passing Eric Staal (2003-16: 4) and Sergei Samsonov (2008-11: 4).

THE RIGHT STEF
Stefan Noesen opened the scoring for Carolina on the power play vs. WSH (10/31), marking his first goal with the Hurricanes. He has tallied five points (1g, 4a) in eight games this season and ranks tied with Brady Skjei (1g, 4a) for fifth on the team in points after being held without a point in eight NHL games over the last two campaigns (2020-22). Noesen registered 85 points (48g, 37a) in 70 AHL games with Chicago in 2021-22, becoming the first AHL player to reach the 40-goal mark since 2010-11 and finishing tied for fifth in the league with 13 goals on the man-advantage.

BURNIN’ UP
Brent Burns recorded an assist vs. WSH (10/31) to extend his point streak to four games (10/24-10/31: 2g, 2a), marking the longest point streak by any Hurricanes defenseman in 2022-23. He now ranks third on the team in assists (5) and fourth in points (7), and his assist on Monday came on the power play, where he paces the team in assists and ranks tied with Sebastian Aho (1g, 3a) and Andrei Svechnikov (3g, 1a) for the team lead in points. Burns also scored on the opening attempt of the shootout and improved to 11-for-34 (32.4%) in shootouts in his NHL career, marking the sixth-highest conversion rate of any active defenseman with at least 10 attempts.

BONUS HOCKEY
After defeating the Flyers in overtime on Saturday, the Hurricanes posted a shootout win against the Capitals on Monday to improve to 2-1 in games going past regulation this season (10/22: 3-2 OTL at CGY). Since Rod Brind’Amour took over as head coach in 2018-19, Carolina has now posted a 36-29 record in games requiring overtime or shootout, tied for the sixth most wins past regulation of any NHL team over that span. The Hurricanes went 7-8 in their 15 such games in 2021-22.

CARDIAC CANES
After falling behind 2-1 in the second period against WSH on Monday, Andrei Svechnikov scored the game-tying goal in the second period, and he and Brent Burns scored in the shootout to clinch Carolina’s fourth comeback win of the season. The Hurricanes’ four come-from-behind wins are tied for the third-most of any NHL team in 2022-23 (EDM, TOR: 5). Carolina recovered from a 3-2 deficit in the third period at PHI (10/29) and has now earned back-to-back comeback wins for the second time this season, as the Hurricanes alsoposted comeback wins in each of their opening two games for the fifth time in franchise history.
