BLUE JACKETS NOTES
HOME AT NATIONWIDE
The Blue Jackets won three of their four games over a six-day stretch last week, defeating Vancouver (4-3 in OT on Tuesday), Nashville (5-3 on Thursday), and most recently at the NY Rangers (5-1 on Sunday). The club returns home this week for two games vs. Arizona on Tuesday and against Boston on Friday before embarking on a week-long road trip first stopping in New Jersey on October 30th before flying to Finland to face the Avalanche as a part of the 2022 NHL Global Series. Overall, CBJ play five of six contests at Nationwide Arena from Oct. 18-28. The club also plays 14 (13 at NWA) of its first 20 games of the season at home.
THE COMEBACK JACKETS
Columbus earned victories when trailing by multiple goals in two of its last four games with the back-to-back wins over Vancouver (2-0) and Nashville (2-0 and 3-1). It was the fifth time in franchise history that the team has earned consecutive multi-goal comeback wins (MR: Feb. 8-10, 2022). These victories have a familiar feeling to the club’s wins in 2021-22 when CBJ set a franchise record after coming back at some point in the game in 23 of their 37 wins. The club finished sixth in the NHL in comeback victories last season. The team also trailed only Florida (11) with nine come-from-behind victories when trailing heading into the third period.
OFFENSE FROM THE BLUELINE
CBJ rank second in the NHL in goals and seventh-T in points by defensemen with 6-8-14 in seven contests. Columbus saw four different blueliners record a point in Sunday’s victory at the Rangers (Werenski, Peeke, Bean, and Gudbranson), combing for 2-2-4. Allstar blueliner, Zach Werenski, leads club defensemen in goals and points (tied with Gudbranson) with 2-1-3 in seven games.
ROOKIE REPORT
The club’s rookies, consisting of forwards Liam Foudy and Kent Johnson, along with defenseman Nick Blankenburg have had a strong start to the season, combining for 3-5-8 in seven games. The trio have helped CBJ rank second among NHL teams in both goals and points, trailing only the Ottawa Senators (7-4-11 in 6 GP). Johnson (2-2-4 in 6 GP), who has a three-game points streak (2-1-3), has scored goals in both games of the weekend back-to-back set, including his first career NHL goal on Saturday vs. Pittsburgh. Foudy recorded two assists in his season debut on Sunday at the Rangers and Blankenburg recorded his first multi-point game of the season (1-1-2) on Thursday vs. Nashville.
GOING GLOBAL
The Blue Jackets and Colorado Avalanche face off in a pair of 2022-23 regular-season games at Nokia Arena in Tampere, Finland on Friday, Nov. 4 and Saturday, Nov. 5 as part of the 2022 NHL Global Series. Columbus will head to Helsinki, Finland following its contest at New Jersey on Oct. 30. The team has several Finns on the club. General Manager Jarmo Kekalainen is a native of Kuopio, Finland and the NHL’s first European-born general manager while left wing Patrik Laine (Tampere) and goaltender Joonas Korpisalo (Helsinki) also hail from the country.
HERE’S JOHNNY!
Six-time All-Star left wing Johnny Gaudreau leads the club in scoring with 4-3-7 in seven games while recording points in five of his seven contests. The winger, who had his five-game points streak snapped on Sunday, has recorded points in all four home games this season (4-2-6). He is the first player in franchise history to start his tenure with goals in three consecutive home games (three games, 4-1-5) and tied Rick Nash’s club record set in 2003-04 for the longest home goal streak to begin a season. He played in his 301st consecutive game on Sunday, the third-longest active iron man streak in the NHL and trailing only Phil Kessel (989) and Brent Burns (685). The Salem, New Jersey native, who signed a seven-year contract with Columbus in July, has collected 214-402-616 in 609 NHL games, including a career-high 40-75-115 in 82 games with Calgary last season when he earned First Team All-NHL honors.
CAPTAIN BOONE JENNER
Boone Jenner notched his first goal of the season on Saturday vs. Pittsburgh and has recorded 1-3-4 in seven games this season. He ranks second in the NHL in faceoff wins (90-of-146 faceoffs; 61.6 pct.). The 29-year-old, who was selected 37th overall at the 2011 NHL Draft, is the longest-tenured Blue Jacket in his 10th season with the club, including his second as the team’s captain. The forward will tie David Savard for the fourth-most games played on Tuesday. He also ranks third on the franchise’s all-tine list in goals and fifth in points with 145-143-288.

It’s one game short of tying his career long set from Jan. 1-Feb 7, 2021 (1-5-6). He has collected multi-point efforts in each game of the back-to-back set over the weekend, recording a goal and an assist vs. Pittsburgh on Saturday and two assists at the Rangers on Sunday. The 25-year-old center set career highs for the fourth time in as many seasons in 2021-22, finishing with 22-23-45 and 10 multi-point efforts in 81
appearances.
WHAT TO WATCH
Defenseman Zach Werenski scored his second goal of the campaign on Sunday at the Rangers and has 2-1-3 in seven games this season. He ranks ninth-T among NHL blueliners in points-per-game (min. 20 GP) dating back to Feb. 10, 2022 in recording 7-19-26 in 33 contests (.79).
