DETROIT – Prior to today’s series finale at Detroit, the Chicago White Sox placed right-handed pitcher Joe Kelly on the Family Medical Leave List and recalled left-hander Tanner Banks from Class AAA Charlotte.
Kelly, 34, has gone 1-3 with a 6.42 ERA (24 ER/33.2 IP), 14 holds and 46 strikeouts over 39 games (one start) this season, his first with the White Sox. He has made five straight scoreless outings, allowing two hits with nine strikeouts over 4.2 IP.
Kelly must remain on the Family Medical Leave List for a minimum of three days and not more than seven.
Banks, 30, is 1-0 with a 3.26 ERA (17 ER/47.0 IP), one hold and 40 strikeouts in 32 relief appearances with the White Sox this season. He has made nine appearances (two starts) with Charlotte, going 0-1 with a 2.65 ERA (5 ER/17.0 IP) and 24 strikeouts.
