BOSTON, MA – The Boston Red Sox today made the following roster moves:
- Recalled infielder Jonathan Araúz from Triple-A Worcester.
- Returned right-handed pitcher Hirokazu Sawamura from his injury rehabilitation assignment with Worcester and reinstated him from the 10-day injured list.
- Designated outfielder Marcus Wilson for assignment.

Araúz, 22, played in four games for Boston during his first major league stint this season, batting .250 (2-for-8) with one double and one RBI in four games from May 12 to 16. The switch-hitter has played in 55 games for Worcester this season, batting .224 (41-for-183) with four doubles, one triple, six home runs, and 27 RBI while making 33 starts at second base, 11 at third base, and eight at shortstop. Araúz made his major league debut with the Red Sox in 2020. In 29 career games with the club, the native of Panama has hit .250 (20-for-80) with 10 RBI.
Sawamura, 33, was placed on the injured list on July 23 (retroactive to July 20) with right tricep inflammation. The right-handed pitcher has a 2.87 ERA (12 ER/37.2 IP) and .207 opponent batting average in 38 appearances this season, his major league debut. He has stranded 19 of 22 inherited runners, including each of his last nine. Among major league rookie relievers in 2021, Sawamura ranks tied for seventh in strikeouts (44), eighth in appearances (38), and 11th in innings pitched (37.2). He made his only rehab appearance on Wednesday, starting for Worcester and striking out one batter in 1.0 scoreless inning.
Wilson, 24, has hit .242 (53-for-219) with an .822 OPS, 10 home runs, and 30 RBI in 64 games for Worcester this season, making 38 starts in right field, 18 in left field, and one in center field. Over 562 minor league games in the Arizona Diamondbacks (2014-19) and Red Sox (2019-21) organizations, the right-handed hitter has batted .256 (516-for-2,013) with 50 home runs and 254 RBI.
