Despite being unbeaten in five straight meetings with the Earthquakes (W2 D3), Vancouver has won only once in 14 all-time visits to San Jose in MLS (D8 L5). The lone win was a 3-2 victory in August 2018.
San Jose’s 1-0 loss at Kansas City on Saturday was its fifth defeat in its last eight games (W1 D2). The run of five defeats in eight follows a stretch in which the Earthquakes lost just three times in 13 games (W5 D5) from mid-April to mid-June.
After losing the first six road games of the season, Vancouver has lost just two of its last eight away from home (W2 D4). In fact, since that run began in late May, only the Crew (0), Montreal (1)and Nashville (1) have fewer road losses than the Whitecaps (2).
After scoring two goals in his first eight games against Vancouver, Jeremy Ebobisse scored twice in the 3-3 draw in May. The game was one of four multi-goal games for Ebobisse this season, only Hany Mukhtar (5) has more such games this season.
Two of the three goals Nashville scored against Vancouver on Saturday were headers, marking the first time the Whitecaps allowed multiple headed goals in a match since June 2021 against Real Salt Lake. The Whitecaps had allowed just two headed goals in their previous 15 matches before conceding two to Nashville.
