MLS Preview: Los Angeles Football Club (18-6-3) at Houston Dynamo FC (7-15-5)

Los Angeles FC is undefeated against Houston in MLS (W4 D4), though the last two meetings, both last season, have ended in draws. Only Chicago against Tampa Bay (12) and Portland against Chicago (10) have played more matches against an opponent without ever losing in MLS history.

The Dynamo have lost five of their last six matches (D1) following a 2-1 defeat at Minnesota United on Saturday. Since the start of August 2021, the Dynamo have 27 losses in 46 matches (W10 D9), more than any other team in that time.

Los Angeles FC has lost consecutive matches for the second time this season following a 4-1 defeat at Austin on Friday, also losing two in a row in May. LAFC lost only one of the 13 matches between those two losing streaks, winning 11 times and drawing once.

Corey Baird finally got off the mark for Houston, scoring his first league goal for the club Saturday in what was his 23rd match as a Dynamo player. Dating back to his time at LAFC, that goal ended a 29-match scoring drought for Baird, who had never gone half as long without scoring prior to that run.

LAFC conceded three second-half goals in its loss at Austin on Friday. It was the second time this season LAFC was outscored in the second half of a match (July 2 at Vancouver) as LAFC had allowed just seven goals after halftime of its last 26 matches this season.
