MLS Preview: D.C. United (6-17-4) at New York City FC (13-8-6)

New York City has never lost at home against D.C. United (W6 D2), including winning the last three. NYCFC has scored at least three times in five of the six wins ad have outscored D.C., 23-6, n the eight games.

New York City FC saw its 10-match home unbeaten run (W7 D3) come to an end with a 3-1 defeat to Charlotte on August 17. NYCFC has lost consecutive home matches just twice in club history, doing so in April-May 2015 and in May-June 2021.

D.C. United has lost four straight matches, equaling the club’s longest losing streak of the season. United has lost six straight away matches, conceding 17 goals in those defeats.

Tesho Akindele scored at 95:32 to beat New York City FC on Sunday. It was the latest match-winning goal NYCFC has ever conceded, surpassing Cory Burke’s winner at 95:24 for the Union on June 26.

All three goals D.C. United conceded on Sunday in Atlanta came off headers, the first time in over 11 years that D.C. allowed three headed goals in a match (at Colorado in April 2011). D. C. has now allowed an MLS-high 12 headed goals this season.
