Mewis’s two goals have her just one goal behind forward Midge Purce (3) with Gotham having five multi-game scorers, four of which have two on the year.
Angel City midfielder Cari Roccaro scored her third goal over her last four games with a headed goal against Kansas City in the team’s last match. Prior to her recent four-game span, Roccaro had scored zero goals since joining NWSL in 2016 (84 career regular season and playoff games). Match facts: Gotham FC hosts Angel City FC in its return to Red Bull Arena as part of a two-game slate across the league on Sunday. Gotham has lost six straight games and looks to avoid a seventh as they host an Angel City side that will be making a push for the playoffs currently sitting one spot outside the line.
Gotham FC’s losing streak hit six games with a 2-1 loss to the Orlando Pride at Subaru Park on Saturday. The team has allowed multiple goals in all six losses, becoming the second NWSL team ever to lose six consecutive games while also allowing at least two goals in each match (Houston – six straight in May/June of 2017).
Angel City, meanwhile, had an xG of 0.31 in their 1-1 draw with the Current, the team’s lowest xG value on the season. Gotham is the only team that has had two games with a lower xG value than 0.31 (0.22 against Portland, 0.15 against Chicago).
The lone matchup between Gotham FC and Angel City came on May 29 with Gotham securing a 1-0 away win. It was one of three clean sheets this season for Gotham, which is more than only the Courage (two).
