Sporting Kansas City has lost just one of its last 12 matches against San Jose (W7 D4, including a penalty shootout win, incl. playoffs). Sporting has won 13 of the last 16 meetings in Kansas City, (D2, including a penalty shootout win, L1, incl. playoffs), though San Jose did manage a draw in its last visit in July.
Sporting Kansas City scored three first-half goals in its 4-1 win over Portland on Sunday, the third straight game Sporting has scored three times before the half, becoming the first team in MLS history to achieve the feat.
San Jose snapped a six-match winless run (D2 L4) with a 2-1 victory of LAFC on Saturday. The ‘Quakes haven’t won consecutive matches since last September when it recorded wins over Austin and LAFC.
William Agada scored two of Sporting Kansas City’s four goals on Sunday, taking his total to five goals in five games with SKC. Agada is the third Sporting player to reach five goals in his first five MLS appearances, joining Felipe Gutierrez (2018) and Miklos Molnar (2000).
Tommy Thompson assisted on both of San Jose’s goals against LAFC on Saturday. It was Thompson’s second multi-assist game in MLS after recording two assists against Vancouver in October 2020. Outside of those two games, Thompson has seven assists in his other 175 MLS matches.
