MLS Preview: Columbus Crew SC (8-6-11) at FC Cincinnati (8-8-10)

FC Cincinnati has won only one of the first nine editions of Hell is Real Derby (D3 L5), with the Crew winning each of the last two, including a 2-0 victory on July 17. Still, Cincinnati is unbeaten in its last three home matches against Columbus (W1 D2) as the Crew’s only win in Cincinnati was a 3-1 victory in 2019.

FC Cincinnati’s 1-1 draw with the Red Bulls on Saturday was its ninth draw in its last 12 matches (W2 L1) Cincinnati is the first team since the Fire in 2011 to draw nine times in a 12-match stretch while that Chicago side is also the last team to draw 10 times in a span of 13 matches.

Columbus is unbeaten in six straight road games(W3 D3), though their last two away from home each ended in a draw. This is the second-longest single-season road unbeaten run in club history after going nine straight without defeat on the road from July-October 2004.

Brandon Vazquez has scored in each of his last five matches at TQL Stadium, the first FC Cincinnati player to score in five consecutive home matches. In fact, Vazquez’s nine home goals this season are four more than any player scored at home for Cincinnati in its first three MLS seasons combined (Allan Cruz – 5).

Cucho Hernandez scored both of the Crew’s goals in their 2-2 draw with Atlanta on Sunday. Hernandez has scored eight times in his first eight MLS appearances, becoming the fifth player in league history to do so, joining Adama Diomande, Juan Pablo Angel (first 7 each), Giovanni Savarese and Didier Drogba (first 8).
