Devin Smeltzer recalled from Triple-A St. Paul
HOUSTON, TX – The Minnesota Twins announced today that they have placed right-handed pitcher Cole Sands on the 15-day Injured List with a right elbow contusion.
Sands sustained the injury last night in Houston against the Astros, after being struck by a line drive off the bat of Yuli Gurriel in the seventh inning. Sands, who is in his sixth stint with the Twins this season, has gone 0-3 with a 6.56 ERA (23.1 IP, 17 ER), seven walks and 26 strikeouts in nine games (3 starts).
To replace Sands on the 26-man roster, the Twins have recalled left-handed pitcher Devin Smeltzer from Triple-A St. Paul. Smeltzer, who was optioned yesterday, has gone 4-2 with a 3.97 ERA (65.2 IP, 29 ER), 17 walks and 38 strikeouts in 13 games (12 starts) for the Twins this season.
