Five Minor League players suspended

The Office of the Commissioner of Baseball announced today that five Minor League players have been suspended following their violations of the Minor League Drug Prevention and Treatment Program:

  • Infielder Derek Dietrich, who is currently on the roster of New York Yankees’ Triple-A affiliate Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, has received a 50-game suspension without pay after testing positive for 1,4-dimethylpentylamine (DMPA), a stimulant.
  • Pitcher Ivan Gonzalez, who is currently on the Dominican Summer League roster of the Toronto Blue Jays, has received a 60-game suspension without pay after testing positive for Stanozolol, a performance-enhancing substance.
  • Pitcher Kanoa Pagan, who is currently on the Arizona Complex League roster of the San Francisco Giants, has received a 50-game suspension without pay after testing positive for Amphetamine, a stimulant.
  • Outfielder Karell Paz, who is currently on the Florida Complex League roster of the New York Mets, has received a 60-game suspension without pay after testing positive for Stanozol, a performance-enhancing substance.
  • Pitcher Elvin Valerio, who is currently on the Dominican Summer League roster of the Detroit Tigers, has received a 60-game suspension without pay after testing positive for performance-enhancing substances Stanozolol and GW501516, a Peroxisome Proliferator Activated Receptor δ (PPARδ) agonist. 

The suspensions of all five players are effective immediately.
