MLS Preview: Nashville SC (8-7-8) at Portland Timbers (7-6-10)

The Timbers came from 2-0 down to earn a 2-2 draw at Nashville on July 3, the second MLS meeting between the sides following a 1-0 home win for Portland in March 2020. Nashville has recorded a win against every team its faced at least three times in MLS play (including playoffs).

Portland’s 4-4 draw with Minnesota United on Saturday marked the first time in MLS history that both teams scored at least four goals and were shown at least four yellow cards.

Nashville SC is winless in three straight matches (D2 L1) following a draw with Vancouver on Saturday, equaling its longest winless run of the season. Nashville has just one win in its last six matches (D3 L2).

Sebastián Blanco scored Portland’s opening goal in draw with Minnesota after just 13 seconds. It was the fourth fastest goal in MLS regular season history and the fifth fastest including playoffs and the fastest since Justin Meram scored for the Crew after nine seconds against the Red Bulls in the 2015 playoffs.

Teal Bunbury scored Nashville’s lone goal on Saturday, his second straight match with a goal. Bunbury had scored only twice in his previous 34 MLS appearances dating back to May 2021 with New England.
