MLS Preview: Atlanta United FC (6-8-6) at Los Angeles Galaxy (8-9-3)

Atlanta United has won each of its first three matches against the Galaxy, outscoring LA, 9-0, in those games. The Galaxy have never suffered four straight shutout defeats to a single opponent in the club’s MLS history.

The Galaxy have lost three straight matches for the first time since September 2021. This is the Galaxy’s 10th losing streak of three or more games since the start of the 2017 season. LA had just two such streaks in the eight seasons from 2008 to 2016 combined.

Atlanta United has just two points from its last seven away matches (D2 L5), conceding two goals in each of the last six of those games. The Five Stripes have had just one longer winless run away from home in the club’s MLS history, going 14 straight without a road win from October 2020 to August 2021 (D7 L7).

Dejan Joveljic has scored in five straight home matches for the Galaxy, netting seven goals in those games. Only two players in team history have scored in more than five straight home matches: Zlatan Ibrahimovic (6 straight in 2019) and Carlos Ruiz (9 straight in 2002-03, incl. playoffs).

Juanjo Purata scored Atlanta’s lone goal against Orlando on Sunday off a free kick. It was Atlanta’s first goal off a set piece situation since April as its previous 17 MLS goals had come from open play.
