Rangers recall LHP Taylor Hearn from Round Rock, option RHP Josh Sborz to Round Rock

Hearn will be available in relief for Friday’s game against the Mariners

Arlington, Texas — The Texas Rangers today announced that the club has recalled left-handed pitcher Taylor Hearn from Triple-A Round Rock. To make room for Hearn on the active roster, the team has optioned right-handed pitcher Josh Sborz to Round Rock.

Hearn, 27, will be in his second stint with the Rangers this season, as he went 4-5 with a 5.86 ERA over 14 games/13 starts during his first stint from Opening Day-June 25. He was added to the taxi squad on Thursday, the day he was originally scheduled to start for Round Rock. Hearn has gone 1-0 with a 4.50 ERA (5 ER/10.0 IP) over 2 games/starts for the Express since he was optioned there following the Rangers’ game on June 25. He earned the win in his last Triple-A start last Friday vs. Albuquerque (5.0 IP, 1 H, 1 R-ER, 2 BB, 9 SO, 1 HR). Hearn’s last outing for the Rangers came in relief on June 25 vs. Washington (4.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 1 SO), which landed him the Pacific Coast League Player of the Week Award.

Sborz has no record with a 7.94 ERA (10 ER/11.1 IP) over 11 relief appearances spanning six stints with Texas: Opening Day-May 1, May 8, May 12-19, June 7, June 26-July 4, July 13-14. He has served as the 27th man for each of the Rangers’ two doubleheaders this season. Sborz has also made 15 appearances with Round Rock this season: 1-0, one save, 0.49 ERA (2 R-1 ER/18.1 IP), 8 walks, 26 strikeouts.

Following today’s transactions, the Rangers remain at the 40-man limit on the club’s Major League roster, along with three players (Mitch Garver, Jonathan Hernández, Eli White) on the 60-day Injured List.
