BOSTON, MA – The Boston Red Sox today announced the following roster moves:
- Reinstated catcher Kevin Plawecki from the COVID-19 Related Injured List.
- Optioned catcher Connor Wong to Triple-A Worcester.
- Transferred right-handed pitcher Matt Barnes to the 60-Day Injured List.
Chief Baseball Officer Chaim Bloom made the announcement.
Plawecki, 31, was placed on the COVID-19 Related Injured List prior to Monday’s game against the Tampa Bay Rays. The right-handed hitter has played in 31 games for Boston this season, batting .156 (12-for-77) while making 24 starts at catcher.
Wong, 26, played one inning at catcher during last night’s game against the Rays after entering in the eighth inning as a pinch hitter. The right-handed hitter has batted .267 (60-for-225) with 13 doubles, six home runs, and 20 RBI in 57 games for Worcester this season.
Barnes, 32, was placed on the 15-Day Injured List on June 1, retroactive to May 31, with right shoulder inflammation. The right-hander made two rehab appearances for the Rookie-level FCL Red Sox, tossing 1.0 inning on July 9 and 12. Barnes has made 20 appearances for Boston this season, posting a 7.94 ERA (15 ER/17.0 IP).
