Club options right-handed pitcher Brayan Bello to Triple-A Worcester

BOSTON, MA – The Boston Red Sox today reinstated left-handed pitcher Chris Sale from the 60-Day Injured List. To make room for Sale on the active roster, the club optioned right-handed pitcher Brayan Bello to Triple-A Worcester following last night’s game.

Chief Baseball Officer Chaim Bloom made the announcement.

Sale, 33, was placed on the 60-Day Injured List on April 4 with a right rib stress fracture. The left-hander will make his season debut tonight, starting Boston’s game against the Tampa Bay Rays. Sale posted a 2.38 ERA (3 ER/11.1 IP) over four rehab starts between Worcester, Double-A Portland, and the Rookie-level FCL Red Sox.

Bello, 23, started last night’s game against Tampa Bay, allowing five runs in 4.0 innings. Ranked by Baseball America as the No. 24 prospect in baseball, the right-hander made the first two starts of his Major League career after being recalled from Worcester on July 6. Bello is 10-4 with a 2.33 ERA (22 ER/85.0 IP) in 15 appearances (14 starts) between Worcester and Portland this season.
