DETROIT – Prior to tonight’s game at Detroit, the Chicago White Sox made the following four roster moves:
· Placed RHP Liam Hendriks on the 15-day injured list (retroactive to June 11) with a right forearm strain;
· Reinstated RHP Joe Kelly from the 15-day injured list;
· Recalled RHP Davis Martin from Class AAA Charlotte;
· Optioned LHP Bennett Sousa to Charlotte.
Hendriks, 33, has gone 1-2 with a 2.81 ERA (8 ER/25.2 IP), 37 strikeouts (12.97 per 9.0 IP) and 16 saves over 25 appearances this season. He is tied for the American League lead in saves after leading the AL in 2021 with 38. Hendriks has made 10 straight scoreless outings, allowing four hits with 14 strikeouts and seven saves in seven chances.
Kelly, 34, was placed on the injured list on May 26 with a strained left hamstring. He is 0-1 with a 9.53 ERA (6 ER/5.2 IP), six holds and eight strikeouts in seven relief appearances this season, his first with the White Sox. Kelly has made four consecutive scoreless appearances, allowing two hits with six strikeouts and four holds over 3.2 IP.
Martin, 25, is 0-2 with a 4.11 ERA (7 ER/15.1 IP) and 14 strikeouts in three games (two starts) with the White Sox this season. He threw 5.0 IP in relief last Friday vs. Texas, allowing two runs.
Sousa, 27, is 3-0 with an 8.41 ERA 919 ER/20.1 IP) and one save in 25 relief appearances this season, his first in the major leagues. He earned the victory last night at Detroit with 1.1 scoreless IP.
