White Sox make three roster moves

DETROIT – Prior to tonight’s series opener at Detroit, the Chicago White Sox made the following three roster moves:

· Returned RHP Lance Lynn from his injury rehabilitation assignment at Class AAA Charlotte and reinstated him from the 60-day injured list;

· Placed C Yasmani Grandal on the 10-day injured list (retroactive to June 12) with lower back spasms;

· Requested waivers on RHP Ryan Burr for the purpose of granting his unconditional release.

Lynn, 35, is scheduled to make his season debut tonight against the Tigers at Comerica Park. He began the season on the 15-day injured list after undergoing surgery to repair a torn right knee tendon suffered during a spring training start on April 1 at Arizona. Lynn was transferred to the 60-day injured list on May 18.

Lynn went 11-6 with a 2.69 ERA (47 ER/157.0 IP) and 176 strikeouts over 28 starts last season, his first with the White Sox, and placed third in the American League Cy Young Award voting, the highest finish by a White Sox pitcher since Chris Sale (also third) in 2014.

Among pitchers with at least 150.0 IP, Lynn led the AL in ERA and opponents OPS (.605), ranked second in opponents average (.209), on-base (.267) and slugging percentage (.338) and fifth in WHIP (1.07). He fell 5.0 IP short of becoming the first Sox pitcher since Joel Horlen (2.06) in 1967 to lead the AL in ERA.

Grandal, 33, left the game on Saturday vs. Texas after hitting a third-inning single. He is batting .185/.294/.237 (32-173) with two home runs and 15 RBI in 50 games this season, his third with the White Sox.

Burr, 27, went 1-1 with a 6.00 ERA (6 ER/9.0 IP) and seven strikeouts in eight relief appearances with the White Sox in 2022.

With the moves, the White Sox 40-man roster remains at 40.
