White Sox make five roster moves

CHICAGO – Prior to today’s series finale vs. Texas, the Chicago White Sox made the following five roster moves:

 • Placed LHP Aaron Bummer on the 15-day injured list (retroactive to June 9) with a left lat strain;
• Optioned RHP Davis Martin to Class AAA Charlotte;
• Recalled LHP Tanner Banks from Charlotte;
• Selected the contract of C Seby Zavala from Charlotte;
• Designated DH/OF Yermín Mercedes for assignment.

 Bummer, 28, is 0-1 with a 3.06 ERA (6 ER/17.2 IP), 21 strikeouts, one save and nine holds over 20 games in 2022.

Martin, 25, is 0-2 with a 4.11 ERA (7 ER/15.1 IP) and 14 strikeouts in three games (two starts) with the White Sox this season. He threw 5.0 IP in relief on Friday against the Rangers, allowing two runs.

Banks, 30, is 0-0 with a 4.57 ERA (11 ER/21.2 IP) and 19 strikeouts in 14 relief appearances with the Sox this season.

Zavala, 28, is batting .282/.396/.535 (40-142) with 12 doubles, eight home runs, 16 RBI and 26 runs scored over 41 games with Charlotte. He appeared in 37 games with the White Sox in 2021, hitting three home runs on July 31 vs. Cleveland.

Mercedes, 29, is hitting .230/.376/.425 (20-87) with four homers and 13 RBI in 25 games with the Knights in 2022.

With the moves, the White Sox 40-man roster remains at 40.
