Guardians make a series of roster moves

CLEVELAND, OH – The Cleveland Guardians today announced the following transactions relative to the 2022 Major League roster:

Placed OF FRANMIL REYES (right hamstring tightness) on the 10-day Injured List, retroactive to May 25.

Selected the contract of OF OSCAR GONZÁLEZ (#39) from AAA Columbus.

Recalled LHP KONNOR PILKINGTON (#45) and OF RICHIE PALACIOS (#9) from AAA Columbus.

Designated INF YU CHANG for assignment.

González, 24, has spent the entire year to date in Triple-A Columbus, batting .282 (49-for-174) with 8 2B, 2 3B, 9 HR and 33 RBI in 41 games (.308/.506/.814), making 36 starts in right field and 5 at DH. He currently ranks 6th in the International League in RBI and hits and his 7th in total bases (88). He leads the Cleveland PD system in hits, total bases and extra base hits (19) and is 2nd in RBI and home runs. He also led the system in 2021 in hits (140), home runs (31), RBI (83) and OPS (.871) between AA Akron and AAA Columbus, batting a combined .293 (140-for-478) on the year and was an org all-star. His 31 homers were tied for seventh in all of Minor League Baseball. The Sabana Grande de Palenque, DR native is making his debut at the ML level after spending the last eight years in the Cleveland system.

Pilkington, 24, is beginning his fourth stint with the club after opening the year on the Major League roster. So far in 4 games/1 start with Cleveland, he is 0-0 with a 2.08 ERA (8.2IP, 5H, 2R/ER, 4BB, 11SO) while posting a 5.02 ERA in four starts for the Clippers (14.1IP, 18H, 8ER). Tonight marks his second ML starting assignment following his May 8 outing vs. Toronto (3.2IP, 3H, 2R, 6SO).

Palacios, 25, is beginning his third stint in Cleveland in 2022 after debuting in Anaheim on April 25. So far in 12 games over his first two stints, he is 10-for-37 (.270) with a double and 2 RBI. Around his stints with the Guardians, he has batted .259 (21-for-81) at AAA Columbus with 6 2B, 2 3B, 2 HR and 21 RBI) in 20 games, including a .310 (9-for-29) mark over his last 7 games.
