Rangers activate RHP Albert Abreu from injured list

Abreu will be seeking first action with Texas since April 29

Anaheim, Calif. — The Texas Rangers today announced that the club has activated right-handed pitcher Albert Abreu from the 15-day Injured List. He will be available in the bullpen for Tuesday night’s series opener in Anaheim.

The team had optioned right-handed pitcher Nick Snyder to Triple-A Round Rock after the game on Sunday at Houston.

Abreu was placed on the 15-day Injured List on May 3 (retroactive to April 30) with a left ankle sprain. He made 3 appearances with Triple-A Round Rock on injury rehabilitation assignment: 3.0 IP, 1 H, 1 R-0 ER, 0 BB, 2 SO. His last rehab outing was on Sunday vs. El Paso (1.0 IP, 1 SO, 9 pitches).

Abreu has no record with a 3.52 ERA (3 ER/7.2 IP) over 6 appearances for the Rangers this season. His last Major League outing came on April 29 vs. Atlanta (1.1 IP, 1 R-ER). Abreu was acquired by Texas in a trade with the Yankees on April 2 and made an Opening Day roster for the first time in his career.

Snyder did not pitch for the Rangers after being recalled on Friday. He has allowed 2 runs in 1.0 inning and 2 appearances spanning two stints with Texas this season (April 14-23, May 20-22).

After today’s moves, the Rangers remain at the 40-man limit on the Major League roster, along with two players (Jonathan Hernández and José Leclerc) on the 60-day Injured List
