Astros acquire IF/OF Dubon from Giants

Washington, DC – The Astros have acquired IF/OF Mauricio Dubon from the San Francisco Giants in exchange for C Michael Papierski. Papierski had been with the Triple A Sugar Land Space Cowboys.

Dubon, 27, was hitting .239 in 21 games (9 starts) for the Giants this season with two HR and eight RBI. A versatile player, he had starts at shortstop, third base, second base and centerfield this season. In parts of four Major League seasons in his career, Dubon has hit .258 (125×484) in 179 games with 15 home runs and 58 RBI. 

A native of Honduras, Dubon began his professional career in the Red Sox organization before being traded to Milwaukee in 2016. He would make his Major League debut in 2019, appearing in two games with the Brewers that season before being traded to the Giants at the trade deadline (7/31/19) for LHP Drew Pomeranz and RHP Ray Black. 

Papierski, 26, was drafted by the Astros out of LSU in the ninth round of the 2017 Draft. In 26 games for the Space Cowboys this season, he hit .211 (19×90) with a home run and 15 RBI. He made 11 starts at catchers, nine at first base and six as the DH.
