Dodgers select Yency Almonte

LOS ANGELES –The Los Angeles Dodgers selected the contract of right-handed pitcher Yency Almonte and optioned right-handed pitcher Ryan Pepiot.

Almonte, 27, will join the Dodgers for the first time this season. In 11 games with Triple-A Oklahoma City this season, he was 0-1 with a 3.52 ERA (6 ER/15.1 IP) and 25 strikeouts. He has spent parts of four seasons in the Major Leagues with Colorado and he is a combined 4-4 with a 5.30 ERA (73 ER/124.0 IP) and 113 strikeouts in 114 career games. He signed with the Dodgers on March 20, 2022 as a minor league free agent.

Pepiot, 24, made his Major League debut yesterday, tossing 3.0 scoreless innings with five walks and three strikeouts. The Indiana native has spent parts of three seasons in the minor leagues with the Dodgers, going 7-9 with a 3.75 ERA (63 ER/151.0 IP) and 194 strikeouts in 45 games (38 starts). Last week, he was named the Pacific Coast League Pitcher of the Month as he went 2-0 with a 1.66 ERA in five starts, allowing 14 hits and striking out 29 over 21.2 innings in the month of April for the OKC Dodgers. He was originally drafted by the Dodgers in the third round (102nd overall) of the 2019 First Year Player Draft out of Butler.
