Rangers place C Mitch Garver on Injured List, recall C Sam Huff

RHP Spencer Patton sent to Round Rock (AAA) on injury rehabilitation assignment

Arlington, Texas — The Texas Rangers today announced that the club has placed catcher Mitch Garver on the 10-day Injured List, retroactive to Monday, with a right forearm flexor muscle strain. To take his place on the active roster, the team has recalled catcher Sam Huff (#55) from Round Rock (AAA). Also, right-handed pitcher Spencer Patton has been sent to Round Rock on injury rehabilitation assignment.

Huff, 24, will be in his second stint with Texas this season (also April 28-May 1). His only game action during his first stint came on April 30 vs. Atlanta, when we went 1-for-3 with an RBI in a start at catcher. Huff has spent the balance of the campaign with Round Rock, slashing .260/.349/.575/.925 with a team-high 7 home runs and 15 RBI in 19 games. He ranks among Pacific Coast League leaders in home runs (T5th, 7), SLG (6th, .575), and OPS (10th, .924). Since being optioned post-game on May 1, Huff has gone 5-for-15 (.333) with 4 home runs and 8 RBI in 4 games for the Express, including 2 home runs on Wednesday at Reno.

Garver has batted .205 with 3 home runs and 8 RBI in 22 games this season, his first with the Rangers since being acquired in a trade with Minnesota on March 12. The first date he would be eligible to return from the Injured List is May 19.

Patton was placed on the 10-day Injured List on April 24, retroactive to April 22, with a right oblique strain. He is eligible to be activated at any point. The right-hander has posted a 3.86 ERA (3 ER/7.0 IP) over seven relief outings for Texas in 2022.

With these transactions, the Rangers remain at the 40-man limit on the Major League roster, along with two players (Jonathan Hernández and José Leclerc) on the 60-day Injured List.
